Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
